ABSTRACT

Objective:The present study was designed to strengthen the education of research integrity, and to improve the awareness of academic misconduct and academic literacy of medical post-graduate students.Methods:A questionnaire survey was conducted with master post-graduate students of a university affiliated hospital, and statistical analysis on the education of research integrity and the perception of academic misconduct among the survey respondents was performed.Results:Academic master post-graduate students′ cognitions of the misconduct in scientific research process and overall academic misconduct were better than that of professional master post-graduate students, and there were significant differences ( P<0.05). The more times of participation in research integrity training, the better cognition of misconduct of scientific research process, research results publication process, and overall academic misconduct, with significant differences ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The education on scientific research integrity of medical post-graduates should be carried out systematically, while the content should be improved and the form should be enriched for scientific research integrity education, so that the medical post-graduates can have a deeper understanding of the code of academic practices, and an education model of scientific research integrity for medical post-graduate which is suitable for China′s national conditions can be gradually developed.

ABSTRACT

Objective:By analyzing the biomedical papers retracted due to the reason that " original data not provided" , to discuss the necessity of preventing scientific data misconduct and the feasible solutions for its management.Methods:Data of the international papers that were published from Jan 2011 to Dec 2021 and retracted due to " original data not provided" were retrieved from Retraction Watch Database. The data of time distribution, institution, journal sources, reasons for retraction, and disciplinary distribution were statistically analyzed and visually processed by using software packages of Excel, Python 3.7, Gephi 0.92.Results:A total number of 529 papers published in the biomedical field were retracted due to " original data not provided" , and the time of publication and retraction occurred mainly in 2019 (27.41%) and 2021 (41.97%). In addition to the reason " original data not provided" used as search term, the reasons for withdrawal were mainly data and image problems caused by scientific data misconduct, and reasons related to the discovery and investigation process of the paper, and these reasons had a strong co-linear relationship. Besides, the 4 disciplinary of biology-cellular, biology-cancer, genetics, medicine-oncology also had a strong co-linear relationship.Conclusions:It is necessary to incorporating scientific research data management into the scientific research code of conduct, strengthen the training on the code of conduct for original scientific research records keeping, establish the scientific research data review mechanism, and promote the prevention and governance of scientific research data misconduct in the biomedical field.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To understand the cognition of research integrity of in-service medical staff in a tertiary hospital in Xinjiang, provide possible reference for research integrity training.Methods:In March 2021, an electronic questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the knowledge of scientific research integrity of in-service medical staff in a tertiary hospital in Xinjiang. T test and analysis of variance were used for univariate analysis, and multiple linear regression was used for multivariate analysis.Results:550 valid questionnaires were collected in total, and the overall awareness rate of scientific research integrity of in-service medical staff was less than 60%. Univariate analysis showed that there were differences in cognitive score of scientific research integrity among medical staff who participating in different scientific research activities ( P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that the educational level of the in-service medical staff, whether they participated in scientific research training, whether they had the qualifications of graduate student supervisor, the interaction between educational level and participation in scientific research training was statistically significant ( P<0.05). LSD test of educational level and participation in scientific research training showed that there was a statistically significant difference in educational level of participation in scientific research training ( P<0.01). Conclusions:The cognition of research integrity on in-service medical staff in a tertiary hospital in Xinjiang need to be enhanced, and their knowledge of research integrity need to be improved. Various measures should be carried out to strengthen the research integrity education and training, so as to improve the level of medical staff’s cognition of research integrity, and improve the medical staff’s attitudes of research integrity.

ABSTRACT

Objective Discussing the Juristic Responsibility of academic misconduct and possible countermeasures.Methods This thesis uses of empirical study to analyze the juristic responsibility of academic misconduct,tried to identify the legal liabilities of the people directly involved.Results If the consequences of academic misconduct is not serious,the people who committed should take the administrative responsibility;if the academic misconduct is related to civil liability or criminal responsibility,related person also need to bear the corresponding civil and criminal responsibilities besides the administrative responsibility.Conclusions The effectual approaches to reduce the academic misconduct are:firstly,Being more aware of legal consciousness;secondly,Quickening the lawmaking process on academic standards;thirdly,Strengthening the law enforcement on academic misconduct and the forth,Tightening up law enforcement to academic misconduct.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe the development of a code of professional conduct that should be practiced by medical students and residents. METHODS: The content of a draft version of a code of professional conduct was generated through extensive literature reviews and the results of surveys that were administered to students and residents. The content validity for the draft version was reviewed by an expert panel: five experts in medical ethics and eight specialists in medical education. The survey was distributed as an email questionnaire and included closed-ended items and open comments. SPSS for Windows version 12.0 (SPSS Inc.) was used for the analysis. RESULTS: After analyzing the experts' reviews and holding a reiterative discussion, we developed the final version of a code of conduct for professional behavior. It consists of nine categories and 44 items for students and 44 items for residents. The nine categories were academic integrity, responsibility during clerkship or hospital work, endeavor to improve clinical competency, respect for patients and keeping confidentiality, honesty in patient care, boundary issues and conflicts of interests, impaired physician behaviors, respect for others, and research ethics. CONCLUSION: Because our code of conduct for professional behaviors cannot extensively include all aspects of medical professionalism, we focused on behaviors that can be used to monitor and prevent misconduct by medical learners. Further studies and discourse among stakeholders should be performed to develop a national consensus statement or code of conduct to reinforce professionalism for learners in medicine.

ABSTRACT

Objective Using second duplication checking to prevent academic misconduct of accepted papers ,and to improve the academic quality of journals for the consolidating credibility of academic journal and brand establishing .Methods Academic Mis-conduct Literature Check(AMLC)system developed by CNKI was applied to check possible academic misconduct of 90 accepted pa-pers for Chongqing Medical Journal ,then the contribution time ,duplication checking time ,words repetition percentage of the accept-ed papers with academic misconduct and similarity literature were analyzed compared with the source papers .Results After chec-king 90 accepted papers ,9 of them were suspected with academic misconduct ,including 5 papers with 30 .1% -40 .0% of coinci-dence rate ,1 paper with 40 .1% -50 .0% of coincidence rate ,and 3 papers with more than 50 .1% of coincidence rate .Most of the academic misconduct were multiple contribution of same manuscript or duplicate publication .Conclusion To avoid the multiple con-tribution of the same manuscript or duplicate publication ,we should shorten peer review and publishing period ,carry on multi-dupli-cation checking ,punish academic misconduct ,and work together with other sci-tech periodicals to eliminate academic misconduct .

ABSTRACT

In recent years, problem of postgraduate academic misconduct has become more and more serious and has caused the attention of majority of educators and academics. In this paper , the con-notation of postgraduate academic misconduct was defined based on academic standards and comparison was made between academic misconduct and academic corruption. Meanwhile , this paper pointed out problems existed in the current postgraduate academic ethnic construction and analyzed main causes of academic misconduct. Finally, this paper introduced the success experiences of Chongqing Medical Uni-versity in preventing postgraduate academic misconduct from the aspects of system construction , propa-ganda and education, supervision in postgraduate training process, strict control of graduate thesis,etc.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Identifying medical students' perceptions of and experiences with unprofessional behavior in school can help them develop and maintain higher standards of professional ethics. The aim of this study was to develop an instrument that assesses medical students' attitudes toward academic misconduct. METHODS: A draft version of the questionnaire form was developed, based on an extensive literature review and iterative discussions. The validity of the content of this draft form was evaluated by medical students, physicians, and education specialists. A total of 803 medical students answered the questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis was performed using principal axis factoring and Varimax rotation. A confirmatory factor analysis was also conducted by root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) and comparative fit index (CFI). The internal consistency of the scales was calculated using the Cronbach alpha statistic. RESULTS: The exploratory factor analysis generated 6 factors with 29 items: scientific misconduct (8 items); irresponsibility in the class (6 items); disrespectful behavior in patient care (5 items); dishonesty in clerkship tasks (4 items); free-riding on group assignments (4 items); and irresponsibility during clerkship (2 items). After adding a single item that addressed cheating on examinations, a 30-item inventory was developed. A confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated a favorable RMSEA (0.082) and reasonable fit (CFI, 0.844). The coefficient alpha for each factor varied between 0.80 and 0.90. CONCLUSION: Our instrument is useful in identifying students' ethical standards with regard to academics and examining the prevalence of unprofessional behavior in medical students.
